Earlier today I read somewhere that W’s budgets cut spending in social areas and shift their work to “faith-based initiatives.” The only problem with this is that government funding for said initiatives (in the form of grants) has dropped over the past two years. (found the link) If the government won’t help and the charities can’t, who will?

But a study released today by the America’s Second Harvest shows that Bush has fallen short. Nine million Americans sought aid from food pantries and soup kitchens last year, even though they were members of households where at least one person had a job.
