Sad day: Miss Tammy Faye, part 3

leave a comment »

On Friday, Miss Tammy Faye lost her 11 year battle against cancer. I was gone from around 11:00AM Friday and didn’t find out until very late Saturday night when someone was channel surfing and stumbled up on CNN. I have written previously about Mrs. Messner and her health. Her death wasn’t surprising since the last report that I read said that she’d dropped to 65 pounds and her doctors had stopped her treatment, but it was nonetheless sad news.

Rest in peace, Miss Tammy Faye.

I think being gay is just being a person who has a different thought on life. They’re just people. I don’t think that God categorizes people. I went to Disneyland one time, and it rained — it’s so awful when it rains at Disneyland — and everyone disappeared inside. And when the rain stopped and everybody came out, every single person had yellow raincoats on. You couldn’t tell the fat from the thin, the rich from the poor. You couldn’t tell anyone from anyone else. And that day I looked up and I said, “God, I think this is how you see us, all in yellow raincoats, and only you have the permission to look under those yellow raincoats.” link

Tony Snow has cancer

leave a comment »

CNN is reporting that White House Press Secretary Tony Snow had a growth removed from his abdomen Monday and that it is both cancerous and has spread to his liver.

The story’s not made it to an actual article yet on CNN but it has made it to USA Today.

Presidential spokesman Tony Snow’s surgery to remove a small growth showed that his cancer has returned, the White House said Tuesday.

He may work for the devil incarnate but he doesn’t deserve this. No one does.

When is rape not rape?

leave a comment »

Time ran a story today about Michael Devlin, the Missouri man who was arrested last month for kidnapping a 13-year-old year old and who kidnapped another child in 2002.

(CLAYTON, Mo.) — A Missouri man accused of kidnapping two boys and holding one for more than four years was charged Monday with forcible sodomy.

This made me ask myself, since when is “forcible sodomy” not rape? My computer tells me that sodomy is “sexual intercourse involving anal or oral copulation”. Okay, so sodomy is sex. If someone forces sex upon me, is that not rape?

Why has Mr. Devlin not been charged with rape of a minor?

with one comment

Jane Wyatt as Amanda in 1986News came today that Jane Wyatt has passed away. Best known for her work on television’s Father Knows Best, what I most remember her for is her portrayal of Spock’s mother in the original Star Trek series and in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home.

She died peacefully in her sleep at age 96.

An image from Jane’s posted on the Washington Post website shows the range of the North Korean Taepodong-2 long range missile. Former SecDef William Perry thinks the U.S. should strike before they launch the test of the missile but intelligence officials say that while there is the possibility of a launch, they can find no evidence that the rocket has been fueled.

Cheney minimized the threat posed by North Korea to the United States, saying that its “missile capabilities are fairly rudimentary” and that “their test flights in the past haven’t been notably successful.”

Update 07/04/2006: CNN is reporting that fuel trucks and other equipment has departed the launch site which could indicate that the missiles are fueled for launch that some say could come as early as Wednesday.

AR gov: “Discrimination is fun!”

Yesterday the Arkansas Supreme Court ruled that a ban against gay folk serving as foster parents was unconstitutional because the rule was formed from “personal morality and bias”. Today Governor Huckabee (R-bastARd) said via his spokeswoman that, “[he is] very disappointed that the court seems more interested in what’s good for gay couples than what’s good for children needing foster care.”

Funny. I thought that having children in loving families was better than having them in group homes. Guess I was wrong.

[T]he court said testimony in the state’s appeal showed that the state’s ban on gay foster parents was based on bias against homosexuals, not on promoting the health, safety and welfare of foster children.

The Court’s ruling was unanimous.

Buffet: Philanthropy with a capital P.

leave a comment »

Warren Buffet has announced that starting in July, he’ll begin to give away about 85% of his vast fortune. As of now, that’s about $37 Billion.

Buffett has pledged to gradually give 85% of his Berkshire stock to five foundations. A dominant five-sixths of the shares will go to the world’s largest philanthropic organization, the $30 billion Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, whose principals are close friends of Buffett’s (a connection that began in 1991, when a mutual friend introduced Buffett and Bill Gates).

KKK becoming irrelevant

with one comment

Members of the KKK and other fringe groups held a rally yesterday at Antietam National Battlefield. Only 30 people showed up.

Worse still, only 30 counter-demonstrators showed up showing just how marginalized the KKK and the Aryans are becoming. There was a time when such a rally would draw hundreds of the morons (KKK/Aryans) and even more counter-demonstrators.

Both groups were overshadowed by the police presence which topped out at around 200.
