Miss Tammy Faye, Part 2
I wrote a year ago about Tammy Faye Messner’s fight with cancer and how things weren’t looking good. A year later, things are looking worse. She’s down to 65 pounds and her doctors have stopped their treatment of her. She’s posted a letter on her website about her illness and its effect on her life.
The doctors have stopped trying to treat the cancer and so now it’s up to God and my faith. And that’s enough! But please continue to pray for the pain and sick stomach.

Congressional Democrats arrested
For protesting at the Sudanese Embassy. Tom Lantos (CA), Jim McGovern (MA), John Olver (MA), Jim Moran (VA), and Shelia Jackson Lee (TX) were arrested along with 6 others for illegally demonstrating outside of the Sudanese Embassy.
“This generation has watched the slaughter in Cambodia. This generation has watched in the slaughter in Rwanda. We will not watch the slaughter in Darfur,” said Lantos, who’s a Holocaust survivor. “The Sudanese government has shown total disregard for the wishes of the global, civilized community. I have no optimism as to the actions of the Sudanese government.”
Around 50 demonstrators marched in front of the embassy carrying signs that read “Stop the slaughter” and “Women of Darfur suffer multiple gang rapes.”
Moran said the United States needs to act to stop the abuses.
The arrests were expected by the Representatives.

“Peace” grannies on trial in NY for Iraq protest | Reuters.com
Some hobbled in on canes, others walked gingerly, but a group of grandmothers remained defiant as they faced trial on Thursday after being arrested while protesting against the Iraq war.
The group of women aged 50 to 91 were supported by others such “Raging Grannies” from Canada, whose members wore badges, chanted and held banners that read “Arrest Bush, Free the Grannies” and “Can’t whip the Insurgents? Whip Grannies.”
Reps: Don’t they, you know, need to be in Congress?
USA Today is reporting that if Congress keeps up it’s current schedule, the Representatives spend only 97 days actually doing their jobs.
During the first two months of the year, House members logged a total of 47 hours in the Capitol. They took off almost the entire month of January ….
If they only work for 97 days this year, they’ll make over $1,700 per day. Ridiculous.
Miss Tammy Faye
For some reason, the gays, myself included, just love Tammy Faye Messner. I’m not sure why, but I do. Maybe it’s because, while she is a Christian, she’s not a hate-filled Christian like so many others. Or maybe it’s because she bares a resemblance to Dolly Parton (blonde hair, heavy makeup). I’m not sure. It doesn’t matter.
What matters is that she’s sick. Very sick. She has stage 4 cancer in her colon and lungs. She’s down to 97 pounds.
While I don’t pray, I am sending my positive thoughts her way. The thought of her so ill or even dying makes me really, really sad and again, I’m not sure why beyond general compassion for my fellow (wo)man. Maybe it’s because, even through all of the drama of her life, through all the turbulent hears, she always kept her faith. I can, though I don’t share it, at least admire her for it. Throughout all of her trials, she’s always been a shining example to her fellow Christians and to people in general of how to live as a good human being: treating everyone with love and respect.
I hope that she goes into remission. I hope even more that she’s fully cured.

The big story of today is the Chicago Tribune’s piece about how they used basic Internet searches and inexpensive online services to obtain data about highly classified CIA agents.
