Loretta Lynn–Best Country Album

In an update to a previous entry, I just saw that Loretta Lynn’s Van Lear Rose has just won the Best Country Album award at the Grammys.

This proves, to me, that the Grammy voters care more for the quality of the work than how well the mainstream listeners liked it.

Ecstatic. :D

Melissa’s Bald!

I’m watching the Grammys and I just saw the tribute performance to Janis Joplin featuring Joss Stone and Melissa Etheridge.

Color me shocked! She appeared on-stage bald. Last year she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer.

“I feel good, I finished chemo last month, I’m out, my hair’s growing back. I’m feeling fine.”

Shake, Rattle, and Roll

We had an earthquake at around 8 AM today. I was sitting at my desk and noticed that it started to sway. I have a 6-foot-tall shelf next to the desk and it started moving, too. It was a bit spooky.

The quake measured 3.9-4.2 on the Richter Scale and was epicentered about 15 miles away.

I live on the New Madrid fault line. In the early 1800s, there were three major earthquakes. They measured 8.1, 8.0, and 7.8 on the Richter Scale. They were 3 of the 4 strongest earthquakes to ever to strike North America.

MSNBC is reporting the story, and it’s amusing that the Guardian Unlimited of the UK is reporting the story too.
