Climbing ladders is scary

I helped my friend Nancy hang Christmas lights on her house this weekend (she’ll be gone the next few so it was either now or never…).

For some reason that’s beyond me, I found myself 20 feet up a ladder.

“Hmm… Who should we send up the ladder? Oh, the one with horrible balance!”

It wasn’t that bad, though, except for one time. To get to the highest point of her roof, I had to extend the ladder a lot. This made it kind of shaky and I was freaking just a wee bit.

The Body Acoustic

Cyndi Lauper just released a new album! The The Body Acoustic is a compilation of all-new acoustic recordings and features collaborations with Sarah McLachlan, Jeff Beck and Ani DiFranco among others.

I listened to some of the previews earlier today and immediately knew that this album must be mine!

A note, though:

This album is released under Sony/BMG. lists it as a copy-protected CD so any retail purchase would likely be the same. That makes me sad. Not that sad, however, it’s still on iTunes. ;^)

What is going on?

What the hell is going on?

It’s 79 degrees outside. I’d normally be fine with that except that it’s November 5 and I’m not supposed to be able to go outside without a coat and not be FREEZING MY ASS OFF.

I’m actually thinking of running the air conditioner it’s so warm in here. I should have to be running the heater, not the air conditioner.

A few weeks ago I actually was running the heater. It was down near the 50’s, I think and it was needed. What kind of weather pattern goes from stifling hot to freeing cold and then back to hot? It’s just stupid.

DoubleCommand + Microsoft Mouse = spasms

Today I got a bit bored and decided to pull out my Microsoft Wireless Desktop that I used with my old PC. Sometimes I get tired and want a change.

Anyway, I hooked it up and started using it.

First thing I did was download and install DoubleCommand so that I could swap the “alt” and “command” keys to make it like my Apple keyboard. That worked fine after studying it for a few seonds.

Then I installed the software for the mouse so that I could click the scroll wheel in Firefox to open a link in a new tab. I’d used the mouse before with my Mac so I knew that I had to do this. However, when I tried to middle-click a link in Safari, it didn’t work. I later found out that it was because I wasn’t clicking hard enough. When I pressed down harder, instead of opening a link it downloaded it. This indicated, finally, that it was being modified by Option instead of Command so I had to go back into the setup program and change it.

That sort of pissed me off for a while. It wasn’t so much that there was a conflict between DoubleCommand and the MS Mouse software, but that I’d caused it and then didn’t even know that I’d done it
