Never Again

Oh how I showed my ass Saturday night. Not literally, of course (at least I don’t think so), but figuratively.

Between 6PM and 10PM I had about 15 duck farts, two orangutans, a healthy swig of some orange-flavored moonshine, some of a friend’s drink when mine ran out and I stole hers, and at least two big gulps from a pitcher of bear.

I don’t think the moonshine was offered, I just took it from the guy’s hand and he didn’t bother to stop me.

At one point I tried to go to the bathroom, but I couldn’t because I kept falling into the walls. Some friends had to help me back to my room. Then things got really bad. I’ll never live this down.

Texas Mega-Church Rev.: “Homosexuality == Murder”

The Reverend Gary Simons of the High Point Church said no to hosting a funeral for Cecil Sinclair, a Navy veteran, but that’s not all he said:

The pastor said that he could imagine a similar situation involving a different sin. Perhaps a mother who is a member of the church loses a son who is a thief or murderer, Mr. Simons said. The church would surely volunteer to hold a service, he said.

“But I don’t think the mother would submit photos of her son murdering someone,” he said. “That’s a red light going off.”

Yeah, because being gay is the same as stealing or murder. Because Mr. Sinclair’s very existence deprived someone else of their property or life? I don’t understand the connection that Mr. Simons is trying to make unless he’s just demonstrating his immense bigotry and stupidity.

Some cops are idiots, some are assholes, and some are both.

On Monday afternoon, I was wandering around town before a meeting and decided to go to get a snack. I had to turn right on to a five lane street. I was behind an un-marked police car (which isn’t that un-marked since you can see the blue lights in the rear window and the “Police Interceptor” badge that Ford put on it). We both turned into the outside lane like the traffic test book said we should.

I immediately signaled and changed into the inside lane because I had to make a left turn in a few lights so I wanted to be closer to the turn lane. As I was in the middle of the two lanes, the cop decided to change lanes, too. He basically cut me off and didn’t use his signal to boot. I got rather close to him because I wasn’t expecting that a cop would be so stupid as to do something like that without there being an actual emergency.

The cop immediately got back into the right lane and slowed down. I passed him. He again changed lanes without signaling and turned on his lights. He “pulled me over” in the middle of the lane to lecture me that I was following too closely to him.

“Do you know why I pulled you over?”
“You were so close to me that I couldn’t see your hood.”
“Was this when I was trying to change lanes?”
evading the question “Did you know that there is a minimum distance that you’re supposed to keep?”

Imagine the audacity! The only reason I was too close to him was because he fucking cut me off!

Internet Explorer is a piece

Why is IE (6 and 7) such a piece of shit that it doesn’t even know that ' is supposed to be an apostrophe and not just some bit of text to be rendered?

Nerd rant: Star Trek: Fluidic Space

I’m watching the Voyager episode “Unimatrix Zero, Part II” and in it, the Borg drone Axum tells Seven of Nine that he’s on “a scout ship patrolling the border of fluidic space. On the other side of the galaxy.”

Ever since I saw this episode this line has bothered me. Fluidic space doesn’t have a border. It’s a “realm” accessed via quantum singularity. How on earth does that have a border?

Is all India this stupid?

Gere kisses woman, Indians go apoplectic Or is it just a few agitators and a judge in the city of Jaipur?

An Indian court issued arrest warrants for Hollywood actor Richard Gere and Bollywood star Shilpa Shelty on Thursday for kissing at a public function, media reports said.

Judge Dinesh Gupta issued the warrants in the northwestern city of Jaipur after a local citizen filed a complaint charging that the public display of affection —which he called an “an obscene act” — offended local sensibilities, the Press Trust of India news agency reported.

India may arrest Richard Gere over kiss –

P.S. I have a few friends from India and I am confident that it’s not all of India. I doubt they would have any problems with a few kisses on the cheek.

They left out “just plain stupid”

They left off stupid

Apparently kissing a woman on the cheek is an affront to Indian culture.
