Good ol’ Spring

Spring’s here and it’s great. Already we seem to have bid adieu to the frigid temperatures of February and moved into the lovely warm days of Spring. Even now at 5:00AM it’s a nice 61°. I’m excited. I’m tired of the cold. I’m tired of it being 16° in the sun. Enough already.

Just about the only drawback to the warmer temperatures is that the bugs have noticed that it’s Spring, too, and have awakened from their winter slumber. I hate the bugs, especially around the porch light at night. They always wind up in my hair—or worse. I guess I’ll have to get one of those stupid yellow anti-bug light bulbs soon.

For now, the warm temperatures win out over the slight annoyance of the insects. Of course, that might change as soon as the mosquitoes make their presence known. Oh well. It’s a small price to pay, I guess, for the opportunity to go swimming again and to start the road trips to the lake, etc.

Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting

Saturday night I went to a hockey game in Memphis (technically Southaven, MS) to see the RiverKings play against the Youngstown Steelhounds. It was a fine time. Fun was had by all.

The game was tied 4-4 and went into sudden death overtime. That didn’t help the score any, but the shootout did. The RiverKings wound up winning 5-4 in the shootout. There weren’t really any fights–damned refs jumping in and stopping them–but it was still an enjoyable time.

Hockey SwagI got some free junk while I was there: a Mr. Potato Head hockey player (complete with extra face with missing tooth) and a bobblehead of one of the players (since I went with a group).

The last time that I went to a hockey game I think it was 1997. I went with a friend’s church group. We got to play “broomball” on the ice (hockey with a ball and brooms instead of pucks and sticks) and one girl fell forward and smacked her braces on the ice. She picked herself up, though, and kept going. What a trooper. Anyway, it was fun ten years ago and it was fun Saturday night.
