iPhone torn apart by crazed mob

Not really. The folks over at iFixit got their hands on one and disassembled it.

Of course, speaking of crazed iPhone fans:

As Levy started to show off the iPhone, a man walked into the shot, wrestled Ingle’s microphone away from her, and took off.

“Gimmie that fuckin mike,” the man says, “don’t fuckin’ mess with me.”

It’s not clear why he chose the microphone over the $600 iPod/cell phone/Web browser for his attempted grab-n-dash, but in any case the would-be thief didn’t get far. Fox crew members and security tackled the man before he made it more than a few feet.

The Sensational One Passes

I learned today that Sherri Martel died last week. From when I was about 10 years old until I was entering college I watched wrestling. You know, back before the scripts were so crazy (okay, a storyline about an undertaker who’s dead but not but blah blah blah) and it was still entertaining to watch.

One of the most entertaining performers, to me, was Sensational Sherri. The ultimate bad girl. She was my #1. My favorite woman on wrestling and in the top five of all of my favorites. This is embarrassing, but when I saw someone mention casually on a website that she had died last week I felt like crying.

Not quite right: #10, #11, and nit-pickery

”As I have travelled around the country … I’ve heard the need for change,” Brown told reporters massed outside his new home at 10 Downing Street. “Let the work of change begin.”

Except for the fact that Blair chose to live in 11 Downing Street instead of #10 because it was larger (Mr. Blair having three children and #11 being larger than #10). Mr. Brown has lived in #10 since he assumed the Chancellorship ten years ago. Sure it’s his “new home” as Prime Minister, but I’m in a nit-picky mood.

Barbarism in Indiana

A friend pointed me towards a story this afternoon about a murder in Indiana. Not just a murder, a hate crime. Read:

According to the police affidavit, defendants in the case, Coleman King, 18, and Garrett Gray, 19, contend Aaron “Shorty” Hall, 35, made a sexual gesture toward King, who felt so threatened he and Gray beat Hall to death. Jackson County, Ind., chief deputy prosecutor Amy Marie Travis said her office was prohibited from talking about the case, but said that the investigation is ongoing.

Gray told police he struck Hall a dozen times and King hit him approximately 75 times that evening. The two allegedly continued to beat Hall until his eyes were swollen shut and he was spitting up blood. They dragged him down the stairs by his feet while his head thudded on each step, according to the affidavit.

Hendricks loaded Hall into the back of Gray’s pickup truck and Gray and King continued to beat him. At one point in the ride Gray asked Hall if he “wanted to die tonight.” The truck stopped on a dirt lane, they dragged Hall out, threw him in a ditch and delivered more blows before driving off and leaving him for dead. Hall’s breathing was labored, but he was still alive when they left, police said.

.Mac “basic” membership

I was just on the Apple Store site and noticed that the .Mac add-on was labeled as a “basic” membership. I haven’t paid much attention in the past so I don’t know if that’s changed, but would this “basic” label leave open the possibility that there will be tiered membership levels in .Mac? Basic and Premium? Maybe a Pro level?

“Unending”

explosionThe opening “teaser” bit before the opening theme left me completely shocked. “Act 1” left me speechless. I wanted to cry but, remembering what a manly man I am, I held back.

I’d rather see SG-1 continue indefinitely, but if it has to end, this was a good way to go.

P.S.
If you don’t know what I’m talking about, tune in to SciFi this Friday evening at 8PM Eastern.

If you’re in the mood for some spoilers, check out “Unending” on Wikipedia. Visit The Stargate Wiki’s entry for “Unending” for screen captures.

Internet Explorer is a piece

Why is IE (6 and 7) such a piece of shit that it doesn’t even know that ' is supposed to be an apostrophe and not just some bit of text to be rendered?

iChat and Time Zones

Just another addition to my wishlist for Apple.

Dear Steve,

I really wish that iChat would allow me to see the local time of a contact next to their name in my buddy list. I have friends who live all over the world and when I know the time zone difference (like +12 hours for Japan) it’s easy to figure out, but I don’t know the difference for Hong Kong, Australia, or some of the other places.

Just an idea. Feel free to use it if you wanna. ;^)

Your loyal fanboy,

Jeff

P.S. I’d still love to have tabs in iTunes.

New theme for Apple site?

I was looking through the Apple site and was extremely antsy to find the new beta for Safari on Windows and I stumbled across this:

Edit:  The rest of the site just updated.
